My Son Really Pays Attention Sometimes! :-)

While driving my son to therapy I decided to talk to him about my deployment. I asked if he understood that mommy has to leave for a while for work and I will not be coming home everyday like I do now. He says, "Yeah I know, they are sending you to Iraq to help other children like you helped me." Well after pausing for a bit, I said, "Yes that is exactly what mommy is going to be doing!" So then I asked him how he felt about it. Will you be sad or happy that I am gone? The little brat said he will be happy. I was like what, you want mommy to leave. Then he laughed and was like I am sad but proud because if you made me happy then it will be easy to make the other kids happy. Then he asked, "Did those kids parents die like Tonya?" Well for those of you that do not know Javhon's birth mother "Tonya" was killed Christmas day. He knows that she is his birth mother but he does not fully understand it all. Anyway, he then went on to ask me if I was going to bring home one of those little girls. I asked why he asked that and he said because you always say you are going to have you a little girl. I smiled and told him it was not that easy and his little smart butt said, "Well you told that lady it was easy when you got me." I had to explain to him what I really meant when I said that. But the lesson here is that children do pay attention when you do not think they are.
